Stroop There It Is
*Warning: Cheesy '90s song reference above. I couldn't resist.
Tonight we chucked the doggies in the backseat of the car and went out to return a video (Tron...a strange film), grab coffee, and pursue the above-pictured stroopwafels. Stroopwafels are a delicious, delicious, divine Dutch treat of two waffle-y cookies that sandwich a thin layer of caramel. They are meant to be placed over a mug of hot, steamy coffee so that the caramel melts and the cookie becomes ooey gooey/yum x 10000000. A coworker brought these into work several months ago after a trip to the Netherlands and I like to reminisce about my first experience with them from time to time.
And now I'm drooling.
Anyway, so E promised me that we could go get some this evening in exchange for me walking the dogs this afternoon. I had seen them at our neighborhood grocery store a while back but this time we were prepared to take the pricey plunge (5 dollars for a tiny box, we are Dutch after all!). BUT...we couldn't find them!
Instead we wandered around the grocery store at 7pm on a Sunday night with 2 unrelated avocados in hand while searching for these elusive cookies (hey we also needed avocados). I pined. I yearned. I almost bought some far less superior pizzelles (some type of foreign cookie). But in the end, I had to settle for a McDonald's ice cream cone. Which was tasty as well, but it just ain't no stroopwafel.
So far, this week is not starting off well.
